Five Design Skills: Install Guide

Every command for the five design skills is here, including both steps for the official repo. Each gets one line on how to use it.

1. canvas-design: posters and static visuals as files

Install (both steps). Run these two lines in order:

claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
claude plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

Watch out: the first line alone gives you no usable skills. It only adds the repo as a marketplace. After line one, the SKILL.md files were on disk. But no plugin was installed, and a new session did not list canvas-design. The skills show up in a session after line two (install log, 2026-09-15: evidence/install-probe-marketplace-only-2026-09-15.txt).

These two lines also install theme-factory, algorithmic-art and web-artifacts-builder (skills 2, 3 and 5 below).

How to use it. Ask for a poster or a static piece by name. It saves the result as a .png or .pdf file.

2. theme-factory: colors and fonts on work you already made

Install. Already done by the two lines in skill 1.

How to use it. Build the slide deck or landing page first, then ask Claude to apply a theme to it. Pick one of the 10 preset themes, or ask it to make a new one.

3. algorithmic-art: generative art with p5.js

Install. Already done by the two lines in skill 1.

How to use it. Ask for a flow field or a particle system, then play with the parameters it exposes. Randomness is seeded, so you can get the same piece back and tweak it.

4. ui-ux-pro-max: a design system from a local script

Unofficial repo. This one is not from Anthropic.

Install. From your project folder (a plain git clone does not show up as a skill):

npm install -g ui-ux-pro-max-cli
uipro init --ai claude

This writes the skill to .claude/skills/ui-ux-pro-max. Restart Claude Code and it appears in the skill list.

Run the example. From the skill folder:

cd .claude/skills/ui-ux-pro-max
python3 scripts/search.py "saas landing page" --design-system

No API key needed. It prints a page pattern (Hero + Testimonials + CTA), a style, and color tokens such as #2563EB.

How to use it. Describe the page type in plain words, ask for a design system, and paste the result into your next prompt.

5. web-artifacts-builder: real multi-component screens

Install. Already done by the two lines in skill 1. Then scaffold a project from the skill folder:

bash scripts/init-artifact.sh myart

It prints “Setup complete!” and installs 40+ shadcn/ui components.

How to use it. Use it only for screens where several components work together (state, routing, real components). Don’t use it for a simple single-file page.
