Claude limit habits — the one-page, no-install list
Seven habits that stop Claude's limit from running out, straight from Anthropic's own help pages. Nothing to install. Only the attachment costs have published numbers.
Nothing officially ranks first. Your limit goes to whatever each message drags in — the whole chat so far, every attached page, and every switch you left on. Seven habits, all inside the chat window, nothing to install. Every line below comes from Anthropic’s own help pages, checked 2026-09-03. Only the attachment costs have numbers; the rest is marked official, size not published.
Anthropic’s factors — the official list of what your limit goes to, in no particular order: “Message length, File attachment size, Current conversation length, Tool usage (e.g., Research, web search), Model choice, Effort level, Artifact creation and usage.” Anthropic’s usage page, checked 2026-09-03. No page says which one is biggest. These are the factors, not the seven habits below.

Settings > Usage. Two bars: your five-hour session and your week. The session bar resets every five hours. The weekly bar resets at a fixed time assigned to your account. Web, desktop and Claude Code all count into the same bars. (official)
Start and end the chat on purpose
1. One task per chat. When the task changes, start a new conversation. If you need the context, ask for a short summary and paste it into the new chat. Anthropic’s line: “Try starting a new conversation if you’re approaching your usage limit in a longer chat.” The summary step is widely recommended; Anthropic only states the new-chat half. (official, size not published)
2. Everything in the first message. Goal, format, constraints, and every related question in one message. Anthropic’s words: “Batch similar requests in one message.” (official, size not published)
